CHP is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the organization’s financial operations. This is a full-time, on-site position based at CHP’s Chicago Corporate Office. The position will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, completing reconciliations, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accurate financial records.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and other accounting transactions.
  • Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with monthly, and year-end financial close processes.
  • Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules for management.
  • Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable activities and assist with resolving discrepancies.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Support grant and restricted-fund accounting and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Assist with annual financial audits and provide requested schedules and documentation.
  • Maintain organized financial records in accordance with CHP policies and applicable record-retention requirements.
  • Help strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes.
  • Ensure financial activities comply with applicable accounting standards, regulations, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with leadership and other departments regarding financial information and accounting matters.
  • Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting or financial management systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and organizational information with discretion.
  • Previous nonprofit, healthcare, grant accounting, or federally qualified/community health center experience is highly preferred.
